Montauk, NY. Venture Bound One Year On The Boat Days 36-39

We have been to Montauk (MTK) before. Keith grew up going there from Glen Head with his family as a special day. Not only is it 2 1/2 hours drive but it was expensive so, it was really a special treat when they did go. With that in mind arriving to Montauk, by boat, took that special treat to another level. Cruising into the Lake Montauk was amazing. We saw beautiful beaches, some for campers. Many working and pleasure boats. They have quite a large US Coast Guard station, restaurants & marinas and beautiful homes. We stayed at, what looked to be the largest marina in the lake and was bought by Safe Harbor Marinas. This particular one was The Montauk Yacht Club (MYC). We docked, got settled and off to eat some lobster.

The restaurant that Keith’s family would always go to is at Gosman’s Dock. The dock was two miles from our stay. It has restaurants, roof top bar, a fresh fish market, an ice cream shop, a few boutiques and a beach. It sits right at the entrance of Lake Montauk with an amazing view of commercial and pleasure boats coming and going. This was my 4th time there. I hate to admit but I am not a lobster fan but Keith sure took advantage of ordering some there. 1 1/2# lobster. I forgot to take a picture of it. Oops! I have the fried shrimp basket which was delicious. It all hit the spot.

Safe Harbor invited us to attend a dream weekend at MYC. It’s a long story on how this all came about but it happened and we accepted. The weekend had an itinerary starting from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. First night a welcome reception. Some people would disagree, but I am not the one to just go introduce myself to hundreds of people. But, we decided to pick a table and sit down and introduce ourselves. It turned out to be the perfect table. The majority of the people were from Essex, CT. where they keep their boats at the Essex Safe Harbor Marina. Our plan is to make it as far north as Bar Harbor, MN. this summer. As it turns out one of the couples we met is planning on doing the same thing. Not only that they had itinararies from two other couples that have done the same trip and had all of their information.. Doree was so sweet to sent me all the info she had. Except hers. Hmm. I wonder what that means. ;)

To keep this blog short…. Safe Harbor MYC hosted the welcoming dinner, a fun filled Saturday of free activities, and finished with dinner followed by live music & dancing. We never saw a list of activities so were not able to take advantage of what was offered. We will know for next time. MYC has an amazing property. Two pools, dining and bars inside and out, , tennis/pickleball courts, corn hole, and a small beach,. It offers minimal amount of rooms and cottages. But they look very modern and up to date. It has a nice laid back swanky feel. The marina has probably 100 slips and moorings. I do recommend staying there. We had a blast.

About the live music….The band was Annie Trezza. She is a Montauk local and pretty well known. She has a great raspy voice. If you are in Montauk look to see if she is performing. You will love her.

From MYC we rode our ebikes to several areas. Gosman’s of course, Gurney’s resort, and the Montauk Light House. The rides were always beautiful. We rode through neighborhoods, and along state parks. Gurney’’s resort was a little bit disappointing. But, I think it was because it was still early in the season. The beach was busy and filled with thirty year olds. Lively! We attempted to get a day bed or just regular chaises but the day beds and bungalows were a bit pricey. For a bungalow they requested $3,000 plus $3,000 in food and beverage. Day beds were $1,500 and $1,500 of F&B. And the chaises were for guests only. So, chances on us getting on the beach was zero. The restaurant was not busy and the food was just ok. Not sure we will ever go back. Although, I kept looking for Byonce since I read she spends a good amount of time there. Another no celebrity sighting.

Day 38 was a Sunday. It was a chill day. No much to report.

Our last day we took our bikes to The Montauk Lighthouse. This light was the first to be commissioned and built in New York. It’s gorgeous. It was completed in 1796 and is still working. We climbed to the top and toured their virtual aquarium and museum. The views around are magnificent. A must do when in your Montauk or the Hamptons.

Finished the trip by one more ride to Gosman’s for a lobster roll and fired shrimp.

It was a great trip. Met lots of people. Living the dream! #Grateful
