Sag Harbor, NY. Venture Bound One Year On The Boat Days 27-35

Wed. 5/29/24 Day 27

Block Island to Sag Harbor. I love this area. Especially in the summer. Well, it’s the only time we have been here but this area has a great vibe in the summer. We stayed there for 9 days. We actually kept our boat there for 9 days but snuck home for 3 nights to see the kids and our 19 mos. old grandson. We were missing them and couldn’t wait to see them. We had a great time being together. Always good to be home. It took planes, trains and automobiles to get there and back.

Back to Sag Harbor. We had about 5 days to hang out all together. We had a few dinners out, went to the theatre, explored Southampton with lunch and shopping, played golf, took Mini Venture around Shelter Island and Saw some amazing homes on the water. We were in awe by some of the yachts we saw. We also had a few meals on Venture.

The theatre was small but sweet. Bay Street Theatre. I ordered tickets on line to see The Subject of Roses starring Talia Balsam, John Slattery, and Harry Slattery. It was more serious and more drama than we were looking to see. But the acting was wonderful. I ran into John Slattery one morning on my way to the market. He looks just like you see him in the movies or TV shows. Very handsome fellow!! I complimented him on his performance. He thanked me as he was going into rehearsal, NO! I was not stalking him.

Sag Harbor is a charming little town but also has a little oomph to it. They offer terrific restaurants, small markets, good shopping and a small theatre. Quaint homes circle the main street area. We took a 3 mile walk away from town one morning. We saw beautiful homes but most of them were set back and we could not see them. They were very private. I did find these pieces of sculpture, in the front area of a home, quite interesting.

Let’s talk about the restaurants.:

The American Hotel is old world but is always a happening place. Lots of locals go there and I heard it’s Billy Joel’s favorite place to go to when he is in town. As it turns out he was not there the two times we went for cocktails at the bar. Oh well! Maybe next time. We love going there. They have terrific food. good cocktails and the bar tenders have been there for over 30 years. I am adding a photo of how much the drinks were back in 1918. A High Ball was $.20 and a bottle of beer was $.10.

Our next favorite is Tutti il Giorno. Italiano!!!! It’s a little gem with a fresh decor, always lively and the food is fantastico! I have read, on their Instagram page, that many celebrities eat there on a regular basis. Again, we have been there three times over the past years and I have yet to see a celebrity. Just my luck. Make sure you make a reservation. You won’t be disappointed.

We tried le Bilboquet for the first time. It has been highly recommended. You must make a reservation. The setting is at the marina over looking the beautiful yachts with lots of greenery around. We were sat in, what I call, back corner outside. It was very quiet. Our view was good. Keith’s dinner was wonderful. My fish was a bit dry. Bronzino is a thin fish and can be over cooked easily. We had a nice bottle of Puligny-Montrachet. We had a lovely dinner. As were leaving we cut through the restaurant and found a lively, noisy, and an inviting feel which we did not feel outside. We now know that sitting inside is the place to be if you like that vibe. We will try it again.

While Keith played golf with his long time friend, Billy, I blogged, walked, shopped and had lunch at Lulu Kitchen & Bar. I have to say that New York always offers a long wonderful list of Italian restaurants and this is one of them. Now, I only went for a light lunch and glass of wine. The burrata was amazing and the wine was very complimentary. Are you ready for this? I saw a celebrity. Yes! Chris Cuomo sat at the table right next to me. He was having lunch with, what looked to be a friend. He seemed to be nice man. Gentleman with the staff, complimenting them, hugging some. He must go there quite often. Everyone stopped by to say hi. Finally, a celebrity sighting.

Last but not least, The Corner Bar. It’s exactly what it is. A bar at the corner. It has good bar food, TV for sports and drinks. But be careful, they like to serve your drinks with heavy pours of alcohol. So, either be ready or ask for a light pour!

I have to share this. One morning I woke up at 4:30 a.m. I could not go back to sleep so I got up and made some coffee and at 5:00 a.m. I looked out and saw an incredible sunrise. I think someone was telling me something by getting me up at 4:30 a.m. I felt so grateful to have watched the sun come up. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

We spent some time in Southampton. Which seems a little more chi chi then Sag Harbor. High end shopping, high end cars, lots of chic restaurants. Sag Harbor does have a Whaling & Historical Museum and galleries which we did not have time to visit. Next time. East Hampton has all the high end designer shopping and wonderful restaurant. It’s another level.

Shelter Island has Sunset Beach resort which was not opened when we stopped by. Next time we will make the time to visit everything we couldn’t this time around. Plus vineyards everywhere.

The more we come to this area the more I fall in love with it. This part of Long Island is just beautiful. Lots of trees, flowers, horse ranches, vineyards, shopping, fabulous restaurants, beaches and the best is we can come by boat!!!
